I would like to know more about these imports. I was talking to a friend about it and one of the things that keeps us around are our favorite communites. If they just got up and moved to Dreamwidth I follow along in a heartbeat.

Dreamwidth started allowing community exports this month. I'm not sure if it's open to free users yet, but they definitely intend to do it as soon as their importer has less load. I thiiiink the only requirement is that the person doing the importing has to have mod access to both communities, the one on LJ and the new one on DW.

What RP communities are doing is polling their members DO YOU WANNA MOVE Y/N? so you could contact the mods of your comms and see if they'd consider it.

Not open to free users just yet. But like you said: soon.
Right now, a paid account is needed for either the comm or the comm owner.

And a paid account for a personal journal is 3usd for a month, so if they're in a hurry it really isn't much.
